Free Shuffle Tune Lead Sheet Download
I just finished a tune that I’ll be arranging for big band and for small big band. I thought if some of you have small groups where you are just playing tunes, you might want to try this at your next rehearsal or gig. Or you could throw the changes into band in a box and get a good II-V7 workout.
Normally I’m not a big fan of “shuffles” per se, but this one just seemed to fit that style. It came out as kind of a blues shuffle with an extended form, with lots of successive II-Vs. If you play this with a small combo, the rhythm section could take the last four bars of a form as the intro, or you could do a 4 bar Eb13-Db13 vamp type of thing. I’ll keep you updated as to the progress of this tune as a big band chart. I’m thinking is will be in the 3 ½ to 4 level of chart, about where Doxy and Slave Labor are. For the ending, just end on the lick in the 19th bar, then a Eb13#11 type of thing in the last bar, rather than the turn around. Solo changes are different then the tune changes, but not by much.
