Buddy Rich Big Band and Time Check (video)

If you grew up in the 60s or 70s in United States, you probably remember all of the traveling big bands that were active at the time.  I remember throughout the early 70s to even the late 70s, my dad and I would catch almost all the big bands every summer, mostly for free, at outdoor concerts put on by park districts, city funded concerts and high school concerts.

Woody Herman's band, Thad Jones and Mel Lewis, Maynard Ferguson and the incomparable Buddy Rich big band were all regulars at the summer free concerts, around Kansas City and around the suburban Chicago area, both places I lived while growing up. It's kind of sad that those days are long gone and will never happen again the way it did back then.  If you are lucky enough to catch Buddy Rich during that time I'm sure you heard the classic Time Check.

Here is a terrific video featuring the Buddy Rich big band and that chart.  If anyone knows who is in his band at the time please leave a comment.
