Monster Big Band Festival in LA - end of May 2006
Hey you guys, If you are anywhere near Los Angeles this year at the end of May,
check out this amazing big band extravaganza at the Four Points Sheraton
at LAX. Judging from the lineup alone, this big band event will be
amazing. Not to mention all the great jam session that will go on
"after hours" with alot of great players.

The Terry Gibbs Dream Band, The Woody Herman Orchestra Directed by Frank Tiberi,
The Four Freshmen
Big Band Broadway
featuring The Stage Door Swings directed by Lennie Niehaus Woody Herman's My Kind of Broadway and
Stan Kenton's West Side Story directed by Joel Kaye
The Bill Holman Band
featuring two of Holman's extended compositions-
"The Tall Guy" (Tribute to Stan Kenton) and "Hommage a Woody" (Tribute to Woody Herman)
The Al Porcino Big Band, Blowin' Up A Storm. The Music of Woody Herman's First Herd,
Mike Vax Big Band featuring Stan Kenton Alumni
Cuban Carnival meets Artistry in Gillespie:
A presentation of Afro Cuban Jazz featuring two big
bands; One band will feature Stan Kenton and Pete Rugolo's pioneering Afro-Cuban works including
Machito, Cuban Episode, Cuban Carnival plus a
special presentation of Johnny Richards' Cuban Fire.
The second all-star band will feature the original
Dizzy Gillespie Big Band
excursions into Afro-Cuban Jazz with the works of
Chano Pozo, George Russell, Gil Fuller
and Chico O'Farrill
We will also showcase a different
University Jazz Ensemble each day culminating
with an All-Star Collegiate Neophonic Orchestra.
BONUS EVENT
FOR THE FIRST 50 FULL REGISTRANTS:
STAN KENTON'S HOLLYWOOD
A narrated bus tour of many historic locations significant to Stan Kenton's career.
The tour will include Bell, California,
The Earl Carroll Theater, C.P. MacGregor Studios,
Decca Hollywood Studios, The Hollywood Palladium,
Radio Recorders, Wallich's Music City, The Hollywood Bowl, The original Capitol Studios, The Capitol Tower,
Kenton's Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame,
The Creative World offices and the grave site in Westwood. We will also stop for lunch.
The bonus event takes place on
Thursday morning May 25.
No tickets will be sold for this event.
It is a special bonus for early registrants.
