Internet Connection Poll - High Speed Wins Hands Down
You've heard alot of reports lately that "broadband" is here, and that almost no one has dial up connections anymore. Well, I just recently took the plunge at home and got high speed cable. I have high speed at my office and being the cheapskate I am, I didn't want to pay the $40 some odd bucks or high speed at home. Man, what was I thinking! I absolutely can't imagine going back to a dial up connection.
Anyway, to find out for myself if everyone has high speed connections now, I decided to put up a "poll" on the left menu of this site. I wanted to find out from you, the visitor" just what kind of connection you have. Now, I must admit that pdfjazzmusic.com has a lot of audio and video, so it may just scare away the dial up users out of shear boredom waiting for things to load, so that might have skewed the poll some. But I think it is pretty representative of what is going on out there with regards to how people are getting on the internet these days. Here is a screen shot of the results as of today February 26th, 2007.
I wanted to wait until there were at least 100 people that voted before I reported results here. Notice that dial-up votes accounted for less than 3%! I was pretty shocked at that figure. I thought it would be at least 20%. I also thought that more people had high speed cable than DSL too. Wrong again, with DSL coming in at just under 60%. I'm not sure what the 2 "other" people have, I just put that option there figuring there must be another way of getting onto the internet other than the 4 ways that I could think of.
So there you have it. I am not going to feel guilty any more for putting video and audio on the site now. If you missed voting in the poll, just look on the left menu of any main page of the site, or the home page. Cast your vote before I remove the poll. I'll put up another one if I can think of anything worthwhile to vote on. J
