Jon Faddis Demonstrates Attacks in Upper Register

One of my favorite pastimes in the last year or so has been to surf around Youtube for jazz videos and videos of some of my favorite jazz players.  I just ran across a very short video of Jon Faddis talking about "attacks".  What an amazing player.  One thing that I've learned though as I get older is that no one is ever totally born with the ability they make look so easy.

My opinion now is that people that can do anything amazingly well has practiced their ass off to get to that level.  Sure they were born with talents, but there is no substitute for working hard to get better.  Tiger Woods is a case in point.   He could play golf better than 99% of the population at age 12, but he is the most focused and practiced player on the PGA tour today.  Its no wonder why he is so good.

Take one look at Jon Faddis's lip and you can tell this guy has paid some dues.  Al Vizzuti has a lip similar to his and he is a legendary practicer.  A friend of mine who studied with Al told me that he is divorced twice because he spent more time with his trumpet then he did his wives. (That's what Al told him apparantly)

This video is short but it shows the amazing ability of Faddis on the trumpet.  Thought you guys (especially trumpet players) would like this one.
