Jazz Gig Guide for 2008

When I lived in Chicago, a lot of players would come through town….but I would always seem to hear about it AFTER they came through and performed.  It seems as if I didn’t pick up a Reader (Chicago’s Village Voice basically) every week to check, I always seem to miss them.  If you live in NYC, its easy to catch just about anyone anytime, but those of us that live in jazz deprived areas, its not that easy.

As usual, the internet has made it easy to do one more thing. I just ran across the Jazz Gig Guide for 2008. A listing of today’s touring jazz artists that links to their personal touring schedules. Just a quick glance at a couple of artists’ schedules for 2008 uncovered two guys I wouldn’t mind catching near me – Tom Harrell in Detroit in Feb and Wynton Marsalis in South Bend, IN in Feb.  These are 2 places that are only a couple hour’s drive from me.    There are dozens of links to each guy’s schedule. This makes it easy to get out your calendar and start penciling in some jazz performances that you want to catch near you this year.

If you want to stay current, bookmark this page.  Maybe one day I’ll create a page like this for convenience on PDFjazzmusic.com, but looks like someone already did all the work.  Works for me!
