Don't Buy Orilla Del Mar
It’s amazing what people will do to make a buck, especially in the music business. Over the last couple years I’ve ran across people that would buy a chart from this website, then turn around and sell it on their own website. www.bigbandcharts.net is one site that has sold lots of my charts without permission and they probably still do, but now you have to at least email him to get the list.
Here is another guy on Ebay selling 200 charts on a CD, and one of them is the chart I give away for free on this website. Lots of Sammy Nestico charts in the mix too. I’m sure Sammy gave him the green light to sell all of those as well (NOT!). Why don’t we all just all email Sammy and let him know, hmmm? Here’s a word of advice…. if you do purchase this CD of blatantly copied music, have him replace my Orilla Del Mar with something else, since you can get it free here.
On another note: For the “regular visitor” who anonymously emailed me via the free chart form requesting that the “obnoxious floating window that now shows up on every pdfjazzmusic web page” be removed – it’s done. Next time just send me a regular email, you don’t have to hide, I can take it. I really do listen to subscribers (well most anyway), and I do want to make the site a pleasurable experience for you. (The floating window only showed up on the home page though, I’m not that obnoxious as to put it on every one.) Have a great 4th of July! I can’t wait to crack a beer and start celebrating, but it’s only 10:20 AM…..

Dear Jim.
Right ON! I do detect a bit of bitterness in your tone, but rightfully so. I too am an arranger/composer. Sometimes I feel the same way a friend of mine used to quip "people are no damned good." Dishonesty has become indemic in our culture as witnessed to by the constant scandals in government and business. In surveys students express no regret or conpunction about cheating. What a world we live in! At least there are some honest folks still around.
Hi James, I just reread that post now and I guess I was a little pissed off at the time. I'm better now however.
I'm sure there isn't a one of us who has photocopied something that we shouldn't have at some point in our lives. The point I was trying to make was the blatantness of what was going on, esp with Sammy's charts. One of the reasons nothing on pdfjazzmusic.com is over $20 is that
I realize that musicians simply don't have tons of money laying around to purchase charts at the $40 and up level. And I don't begrudge any composer for asking for those prices either. But I've gotten many emails from band directors thanking me for such reasonably priced charts - and many of these band directors pay for charts for their bands from their own pockets. (I guess that says something for our educational system as well.) At any rate, there are no hard feelings with the guy from Ebay - I posted acknowledgement of his apology in the next post.
