Miles Davis and Coltrane Classic Video

Ok...it's almost 2 in the morning and I'm up drinking wine and watching jazz videos on youtube.com  If you have not checked out www.youtube.com for your daily entertainment, you should do so.  The site is only 6 months old and there are already TONS of videos on almost every imaginable topic.

I stumbled across this awesome video of Miles and Coltrane and I just had to post it for everyone to check out.  It's wild because Miles is so cerebral in his playing.  It's like he is just talking through his horn.  This is a real gem of a video.  Notice how everyone is wearing a suit, they look like they are all insurance salesman dressed to the tee.  This might have been filmed during a Gil Evans recording session because you will notice there are alot of extra musicians, a whole big band basically, surrounding them.  Enjoy!

Jim, this footage was shot at CBS Studio 61 on April 2, 1959 as part of a special where Miles, Trane, Wynton Kelly, PC and Jimmy Cobb were there. Cannonball was sick that day which is why you see Trane playing alto in the Gil Evans orchestra for some of the "Miles Ahead" material. They were guests on the Robert Herride Theater Show.
