Tips for PDF File Downloads

Tips for PDF File Downloads

Most downloads on pdfjazzmusic.com go off without a hitch, but there are a few things that seem to crop up repeatedly so I thought I would address them here for you.  These tips that will help make getting a chart off the site as painless as possible - not in any order of importance but things that may help you in the future.

1) Be sure you have an updated version of Adobe Reader.  If you are using a really old version you may have problems.  Go to the Adobe website and download and install the freebie.

2) Occasionally charts will open in full screen mode - the alto 1 part is showing and there is a black screen around the page.  Don't worry, the chart is all there.  Use your mouse wheel to go up and down, or press the down arrow key on your keyboard to scroll through the chart.  To take it out of full screen mode, simply press the escape key or F8 (maybe F9) and you'll see all of the menus appear normally.

3) Occassionally (rarely, depending on your screen resolution) you'll see the chart appear with no lines or spaces.  You can magnify (zoom in) or simply print as normal. What appears on the screen is not indicative of the way the chart will look when printed.

4) Passwords have to be entered EXACTLY as shown in the email you receive after you purchase.  They are touchy too. If you even get a small "space" when you copy and paste, they will not work.  And if you enter by hand, be sure they are all capitals and that you get the 0's (zeros) and the capital O's correct.  I try to avoid even using those now when putting a new chart together.

If I think of any others in the future I'll add them to this post.  If you have any tips you would like to share to make downloading pdfs of the site (or any other), please feel free to share them by clicking on "comments" below.

Small Big Band Chart

In addition to a couple of CDs for singers lately, I've been writing some charts for a college in upstate NY.  Not the traditional big band however, more of a smaller version.  2 tpts, 2 bones, 3 saxes and rhythm.  It is an interesting (and challenging) instrumentation to write for.  You don't get the power of the big band sound and you have to kind of think more in lines and counterpoint and what not.

Anyway, I did just get a recording of one of the charts and you can listen to it below.  I do plan on getting this on the website for sale, along with the other one that has been recorded.  After that there will be 4 more coming.  I do think this one would make a good full big band version.  Kind of nice to start off with unaccompanied horns with no rhythm.  Take a listen and let me know what your thoughts are.  You can leave a comment below.

The chart is called "In Time's Shadow"
