Stan Getz, Coltrane and Oscar Peterson Video
In the history of jazz, the late 50's and early 60's might be one of the best times to be a jazz player and listener. The era of rock and roll was still a few years away and alot of musicians were coming into their prime years.
Ok, so we had lost Charlie Parker in 1955 but ALOT of great players were on the scene after the bebop and post bob eras. The 1960's started to change everything in the music (and everything else!) but 1960 was still a great year for jazz. Miles Davis had recorded Kind of Blue the previous year but things were still cooking along and straight ahead in 1960.
On that note, check out this video featuring three giants of jazz - Oscar Peterson, Stan Getz and John Coltrane. This may be the only video in existence of these three on the band stand together. Coltrane recorded Giant Steps not long after this and died just a few years after this video was recorded. This will be a classic 100 years from today. Hope you enjoy it.
