Musician needed for harness racing season

If there is page on my web site that I visit the most regularly, it is the Jazz jobs page.  After I learned how to use RSS feeds to automatically put new and updated content on certain pages relating to the topic that I was interested in, I found a terrific source that listed a variety of music positions, teaching positions, and any other music related type of job that might be available.

Today I checked on the web site and found an ad for a musician needed for harness racing.  I am assuming that this is a trumpet player position but I'm not sure.  A trumpet player friend of mine in Chicago used to have a full-time job at the Arlington horseracing track in Arlington Heights, a suburb of Chicago.  His responsibility was to play before each race just one simple tune which I'm sure you all know that is most associated with horseracing.  He did this six times a day, six days a week as I remember and it paid really well.  It was also during the day so he had his nights free for other gigs.

Here is the ad from the Jazz jobs page.  Click here to go directly to the page

New Ryan Cullen Chart and Apple Ipod Drawing

I just recently placed a new chart by Ryan Cullen and on the web site.  You can view the score and listen at Ryan's page. Ryan has asked me to raise the prices of his charts to $19.95 so if you been thinking about picking up any of his charts do so in the next week or so.

I will soon be converting my small band charts to full big band and I'll be running a terrific special soon.  Look for an e-mail on that and also a chance to win an Apple iPod. If for some reason you are no longer on the mailing list, simply go to the free chart page and fill out the form.  In doing so you get the free chart and I'll have your e-mail address as well.  If you are on my list and have changed e-mail addresses, send me an e-mail and I will make the change to your new one. That's all for today!

Free music downloads from Napster

Recently I've been checking out places to go to get unlimited downloads in MP3 format.  Right now I'm checking out Napster's service whereby for a small monthly fee you can download tons of great jazz music.  The first seven days are totally free so I will be a downloading maniac for the next week or so checking out the service.  I just downloaded the Napster software last night, and I am putting it through its paces and saying exactly what is available and how easy the software is to use.

I have to admit I am a little behind the times in that I don't own an iPod or any other MP3 player at the moment.  But I've made the decision to take the plunge and get in the 21st century.  That is one reason I've been looking into download services.  I do remember Napster when I was just a filesharing network and they got sued by everybody and his brother in the music industry.

From what I can tell this is going to be a terrific way to not only get a lot of great jazz music onto CD and into my iPod, but also a terrific way to create playlists read on my computer so while I'm doing busy work I can be also listening..  I've already searched for a lot of jazz artists, including some obscure ones, and they are available.

At the end of my free trial, I will be making a short video to show you exactly how the software works and the number of jazz titles that are available.  If you don't want to wait, click here to download the software and get your seven day free trial.  I figured there is nothing to lose and I can get a lot of music downloaded in a weeks time.  I'll keep you posted on this.
