Christmas Brass Quartets Available Now

Last Christmas season Ron Davis added some nice, straight ahead brass quartets to the website and this is just a reminder to check them out if you have any inkling to make some money this year playing brass quartet music around Christmas time.

We used to contact the malls around Chicago and always book a few gigs just playing this kind of music for a couple hours.  Sometimes we really froze our buns off in the Oakbrook mall, which is outdoors, but it was fun and we got paid pretty good too.

My suggestion would be to start calling now to book the gigs.  Yes, it is an advantage if you have a recording of your brass group’s playing, just so they know that you know what the hell you are doing.  Christmas time is a good time to put the holiday cheer into people’s hearts, and make some good coin as well.

Here is the link to the brass quartets.  You can listen to midi files there as well.

Gotta Love Those Recording Sessions!

I just wrapped up a recording project this last weekend that has kept me pretty busy the last few months.  The project was with a singer from NYC, King David (yes, his real name).  King picked some terrific tunes that are somewhat obscure but still great to say the least.

There is nothing like hearing your stuff played by great players in a recording situation.  I’ve always loved going in the studio and this session was one of the most fun I’ve ever had.

Players were some of the best in Chicago, including Mark Colby, Tom Garling, Rob Parton, Bob Rummage, Larry Novack, etc.  You can see the entire list on King’s website.

String players were from the Lyric Opera and other assorted orchestras around town.  It’s really a lot of fun when everyone is on the same page and really works to make the music sound good.  We went over a little bit and the musicians were terrific in that there was no moaning and groaning about overtime, they just wanted to make the recording as good as they can.

So now I’m able to get back and do some things on the website that have had to be on the back burner.  Look for a terrific special in your email very soon.

That’s it for today.
